Using fondant for cupcake toppers is pretty simple. All you need is a cookie-cutter, yes! That’s it. Firstly, roll out the fondant to 1/8 inch thickness. Once done, make cutouts as many as you like and lay them on to the parchment paper. Add details while the fondant is still gummy and let those cutouts dry overnight.
However, if you don’t have a cookie-cutter, consider cutting out circles or any other shape of your preference; go crazy with it. Once you are satisfied, paint them with edible color and let them dry. Before placing those cutouts, make sure to frost the cupcakes so that they can stick to fondant.
Besides all that, you can use gum paste mold to make cupcake decorations. Molds are easy to find; in fact, thousand of them are available online. So, start adding them to your cart.
Royal icing can also be used in place of fondant. In fact, it is easier to use when compared to fondant. Chocolate can also be used as an alternative, but it’s a bit tricky to use. It would take a lot of time to get used to it, but that’d be worth it.
In the End
Decorating a cupcake is not a child’s play; you have to be patient, experienced, and creative. But, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give it a go. You have to somewhere, so try making it yourself and get that amateur tag off of you.
